Tulivieja

watercolor, 30 x 22 inches

Margarita enjoyed playing elaborate tricks on her neighbors in Puerto Rico. On one occasion she had a maid strap brooms to her arms, cover her with sheets, and follow her with a lantern as she walked down the beach, moaning, to the tavern. Locals believed she was the cursed ghost, Tulivieja, who walked the waterways looking for her murdered baby. Any man who looked at Tulivieja would share her fate forever.
